Getting your meeting room calendars ready for Teams Room devices

When you want to start using Teams Room devices in your meetings rooms and already have Room mailboxes? Then it’s necessary to make them Room device ready.

To do this you will need to do 2 things

Now let’s get to it!

Assign the license

To use Microsoft Teams Room devices you will need to assign the Room mailboxes a Teams Room license.

This license contains license options like Teams, Skype for Business, Audio Conferencing and will give you the possibility to manage devices via Endpoint Manager.

You will find more information about this license plan via the following link:

You can enable the license via the GUI or the following PowerShell command:

Look up the SKU of the Meeting Room License (most of the time it’s domain:MEETING_ROOM where domain is the first part of your domain)

Get-MsolAccountSku |where {$_.AccountSkuId -like "*Meeting*"}
The Teams Room license’s SkuId

Add the license to your meeting room:

Set-MsolUserLicense -UserPrincipalName -AddLicenses domain:MEETING_ROOM

Convert the Room to a “account enabled” Room Mailbox and set a password

The last bit we need to do is enable the Room mailbox account and set the password so it’s ready to use on a Teams Room device for provisioning.

 get-mailbox -RecipientTypeDetails RoomMailbox | where {$_.Name -like "*yourroom*"} | set-mailbox -EnableRoomMailboxAccount $true -RoomMailboxPassword (ConvertTo-SecureString -AsPlainText -Force "ENTER YOUR DESIRED PASSWORD")

Et viola, you’ve got yourself a working Teams Room!

Last thing you will need to do is convert your future meetings to Teams meetings and add the Teams Room device as a location.

You can then sign-in on the Teams Room device and start the meeting when the time is right.
